Keeling’s brief was to create music that could be sung by the actors on stage, function as incidental music, and work as a stand-alone collection of pieces. This EP takes the ‘detuned’ nature of the script, using out-of-tune keyboard instruments: piano, prepared piano, and harmonium - which, in turn, affect the vocal delivery - as a conceptual parallel of the script’s effect on the story. At the time Sorana was a case study for a trainee analyst and was undertaking dream analysis; each song describes a recently-analysed dream, and the cover too replicates a dream-state.
